Day 1- Beijing
We got to Beijing late last night (early morning at home) but we were exhausted since we had not slept very much on the plane...well Craig not at all! Our hotel is nice but it doesn't have a great Internet connection...thankfully enough to FaceTime the boys! Day 1- we went on a tour. We started our day with a great buffet breakfast in the hotel... It's is where I will be filling up each day. We then got on a bus with our group and our guide from ccai-our adoption agency. We went into old Beijing on a rickshaw. That was a great experience, although in the end we felt sorry for the driver! We went to a ladies home in old Beijing and she (through our guide) was able to tell us all about her life there. It was very interesting. She served us snacks and tea-neither of which I liked but I tried it :)! From there we went to a silk factory and watched how silk was made. Very neat! I bought Mia a silk dress. Then we went to a local Chinese restaurant. George-our guide ordered many different dishes so we were able to try all kinds of food. I stuck with rice noodles and chicken...Craig ventured out a little more! We drove to Tiananmen square and The Forbidden City. They were beautiful! Lesson learned here though...take your own toilet paper everywhere! This was a great day but exhausting! I thought we were doing good with jet lag but then we crashed for 3 hours after the tours...thankfully we were still able to sleep all night!
Day 2- Beijing
Today we started with the yummy breakfast buffet then we started our tour by going to the jade factory. This is their prized stone. The jade bangle is something that is passed down to daughters so I bought one to give to Mia one day. We then climbed The Great Wall and what a Great Wall it was!! We climbed a little ways up but with the extreme heat and me being it of shape we didn't make it very high. After the climb we went to eat lunch again and again I ate some noodles and safe looking chicken! On the way back we were able to see where the Olympics were held. We also went to an amazing acrobat show. After the show we decided to explore a little on our own. We went to a huge mall and had some not so great dinner...but it was a ne at place. We then went to the night market where I am pretty sure 20 out of the 21 million people who live in Beijing were there. A little too many people for my comfort zone. Craig was excited to see starfish and live scorpions on a stick ready to eat. It's was enough for me so we went back to the hotel for bed.
Day 3-headed to Zhengzhou
Today we took a train to zhengzhou where Mia lives. We are getting closer!! The train ride was a great experience however getting to and for the hotel was a little scary. We are thankful for nice Chinese people who speak English who were willing to help us. The train was really nice, kind of like business class on the plane. It was neat to go from looking at buildings buildings and mor buildings to nothing but farm land. Once we got to our hotel we met up with our group to exchange money and go to Walmart. So I am pretty sure I will be lighter when I come home. We walked 20 minutes in the not so cook weather to Walmart, but it was worth it because I bought peanut butter and jelly! Can't wait to eat lunch tomorrow :)! We are now going to try to watch the mt Juliet church of Christ service live...hope the Internet holds out. It seems to be much more reliable here! Tomorrow will be a much better blog. We get Mia around 10:00 tomorrow!!!!!! Can't wait to see that sweet baby!!
